Part 2 of our Civility Series

Bena Stock, The Lawyer Mindset will present this program which is designed to help you reframe how you experience and respond to difficult people so that you remain grounded, effective, and resilient in your practice. Part 2 wraps up our civility series by building on Civility: The Smart Practice, which explored civility as both an obligation and an advantage. This session turns to one of the greatest challenges to maintaining civility: dealing with difficult people.

Difficult people are an unavoidable part of practice, whether they are clients, colleagues, opposing counsel, or members of your own team. Responding effectively requires insight into the psychology behind difficult behaviours, awareness of how they affect you, and tools to respond without compromising your judgment, integrity, or wellbeing.

In this session, we welcome back Bena Stock of The Lawyer Mindset who will explore:
  •  Why difficult behaviours arise including the underlying drivers, stressors, and personality factors.
  •  What happens to you, including the emotional and physiological reactions these behaviours trigger, and why lawyers are particularly vulnerable.
  •  How to navigate difficulty effectively with tools to maintain poise, avoid reactive decision-making, reduce unnecessary stress, and protect your professional integrity.
By approaching difficult people with insight and strategy, you can protect your wellbeing, stay true to your advocacy style, strengthen your decision-making, and uphold the standards of civility that define the legal profession.
